Ethio-Djibouti Standard Gauge Railway Share Company (Ethio-Djibouti Railway /EDR) was established in April 2017, based on the Bilateral Agreement signed between the two states, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Republic of Djibouti with an initial capital investment $500 Million USD. The company has started its work by providing passenger and freight transport services since January 1, 2018.
The Ethio – Djibouti Railway line extends 756 K.M (656 K.M in Ethiopia and 100 K.M. in Djibouti). EDR owned 35 Electric locomotives, 6 diesel shunting locomotives, 30 passenger coaches and 1,100 freight wagons.
